Candidate Packages

Are you thinking of running for the 2026 Municipal Election? The Township of Zorra Candidate Package contains all the information you will need to get started. Hardcopies will also be available at the Township Office. Both the online and hardcopy version of the package will be available as of May 1, 2026.

Nomination Process

Nominations will be accepted from Monday, May 1, 2026 to Friday, August 19, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Nominations will be accepted in person only at the Township Municipal Office. 

To run for the office of mayor or councillor for the 2026 municipal election, you must file several forms (see list below) and submit the required filing fee. Please visit our forms page for links to all forms.

Please remember to bring the following to your appointment the day that you file:

  • Form 1 – Nomination Paper (to be signed in front of the Clerk)
  • Form 2 – Endorsement of Nomination (original signatures required. It is recommended you collect more than 25 signatures, in case some are disqualified.).
  • Form EL14 – Candidate’s Declaration – Proper Use of Voters List
  • Form EL52 – Consent to Release Personal Information
  • Election Bank Account Form
    • Proof of Candidacy to Open Bank Account (This form is only necessary if candidate is opening an election bank account).
  • Current, acceptable identification (such as Ontario driver’s licence, Ontario health card (if your name and address are printed on the card), mortgage, lease or rental agreement)
    • If an agent is filing a nomination on your behalf, the agent must provide the above documents as well as their own
  • The required filing fee: $200 for the Office of the Mayor or $100 for all other offices. Payment is accepted in the form of cash, debit, and cheque made payable to The Township of Zorra.

There are several additional forms that must be completed on or after the day of filing. The Township Clerk will provide these forms to you following the submission of your required forms. 

NOTE: Until you file a nomination paper, you cannot raise or spend any money on your campaign.

Candidate Nominations – Appointment Strongly Encouraged

Nominations must be filed in-person at the Township of Zorra Municipal Office (163 Brock Street, Thamesford) by the candidate or the candidate’s agent, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Individuals wishing to file their nomination for the 2026 Municipal Election are strongly encouraged to book an appointment with the Clerk. While walk-ins will be accommodated whenever possible, appointments will take priority, and the Township cannot guarantee that staff will be available to process a nomination without one.
